ABSTRACT

Just as all research has its genesis in some objective ground, such as a sociological problem in need of a solution, an epistemological question that needs answering or a virus that demands a vaccine, research also has roots in more subjective grounds as well. From the Old Testament through the New Testament, the scriptures teach that one of the primary ways we demonstrate our love for God is by caring for the material needs of others and engaging in activities that promote a just society. Sadly, this pattern of neglecting God’s instructions regarding the pursuit of social and economic justice is now being repeated as the Christian Church, and those who claim to be followers of Jesus, live in ways contrary to his clear teaching. For Jesus the test as to whether or not we love our money and possessions is how willing we are to leave them all in obedience to him.
