ABSTRACT

Several checklists need to be prepared and used which detail the equipment maintenance required before going into the field and specify the documentation, equipment, and supplies required for sampling. The amount of equipment maintenance and calibration required prior to going into the field should be clearly specified in the presampling equipment maintenance and calibration checklists, which are based on the manufacturer's recommendations, sampling objectives, and prior experience. A portable field table covered with a new piece of plastic for each well is convenient to use for preparing equipment and performing field measurements. The sampling plan must specify equipment that needs to be calibrated in the field and how often after the initial calibration it should be checked or recalibrated. A conductivity meter should be checked with standard solutions prior to going out in the field; if the reading is out of prescribed tolerances it may need servicing, as readjustments of the meter may not be possible.
