ABSTRACT

In order to determine whether a gas, liquid, or solid in the workplace may result in an injury, an apparently reasonable pathway linking the chemical substance to the injury site must be assumed. However, in the environment, we generally have to show that a pathway exists, although in some cases one is merely assumed, especially in a worst case scenario. A pathway, then, is any route the COC may take from its environmental source to a receptor. Table 9.1 shows the five main parts of an exposure pathway.
