ABSTRACT

A pump test can be performed in an aquifer test well constructed for the pump test, a groundwater recovery well, or an oversized monitoring well. In any case, all recovery data from a pumping test should be evaluated, especially at the groundwater recovery well. Both bail down and slug tests provide poorer hydraulic conductivity estimates than pump tests but better estimates than grain size analyses. Bail down and slug tests are less accurate than pump tests because they only evaluate that part of the aquifer immediately adjacent to the filter pack and screen. In pump and treat, it typically involves capture zone determination, groundwater recovery well design, pump selection, above-ground treatment unit design, bacterial growth and mineral deposits treatment, miscellaneous equipment and materials selection, electrical power availability and requirements, and treated groundwater disposal.
