ABSTRACT

Ergonomics is an issue that has gained momentum recently due to cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs), which can affect both the employee and the employer in negative ways. The goal is to identify areas where workers are placed under repetitive physical strain. Areas where workstations or areas cause employees to put themselves in positions that negatively impact their bodies will need to be identified. Any situation that would represent a danger to the worker needs to be identified and listed on a piece of paper. A local occupational healthcare provider may be contacted for assistance in the assessment process. To lower the risk of injuries due to cumulative trauma, it may be necessary to restructure the areas or stations where employees work. This may also entail capital expenditures to purchase equipment and other items necessary for the appropriate physical changes.
