ABSTRACT
What substances at NPL sites are the most hazardous to human health? What key principles of toxicology are relevant to the properties of substances released from hazardous waste sites and during chemical spills? The toxicologic information in this chapter draws heavily on the list of 30 substances found most often in NPL sites that have completed exposure pathways. The toxicology of mixtures of substances released from hazardous waste sites is also discussed.
