ABSTRACT

Dream teams are exciting. They capture our imagination. The phrase “dream team” is often used to describe a group of people working together for a common objective who achieve extraordinary success. The achievement seems so spectacular that it’s as if we are dreaming. It would be more accurate to use the phrase “dream talent” to describe these all-stars. Because the phrase “dream team” has often been misused in this way, we want to make it clear that our focus is on “real dream teams,” like the 1980 US hockey team—teams that achieve extraordinary results through synergistic group dynamics. When a real dream team experience occurs, it seems magical. We have all had our moments—those times when we have been a part of an extraordinary team effort that succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.
