ABSTRACT

This chapter notes what the key characters, observed by the author, went on to do beyond his period of study. Alongside the large numbers of people who used drugs in connection to their participation in the rave club culture, there was a large number of people who became involved in selling them. In the same way that drug use became normalised, to an extent drug selling did too. Drugs market commentators have noted how the macro-shift in drugs markets, to large-scale, recreational drugs markets, made it easier for people to enter the drugs economy as freelance sellers and as extensions of friendship group selling. Rave club participants were enterprising and entrepreneurial actors who took advantage of the revenue raising opportunities available both within the legal and illegal sectors of the London rave club economy. Rave club camaraderie and friendship underpinned the expansive nature of drug selling operations.
