ABSTRACT

Commonly, grouting works are part of a major project which requires subsoil investigations. Core boring is the most important technique to encounter subsoil properties, particularly in rock. It is presumed that the main terms related to core boring are known to the reader. The groutability of the subsoil is substantially related to its permeability. The groutability of soil depends substantially on the grain size distribution. Stratification of soil may lead to the need to treat different layers with different materials in order to achieve proper void filling. For crack injections of cohesive soil the investigations may be restricted to a description of the soil and to the determination of the grain size distribution. For fill injections the soil description may in practice be restricted to identify the stratification and to determine the grain size curves. The density and the void ratio may be estimated.
