ABSTRACT

The solar sailing vehicle has been designed in 1990 using the experience gained from research accomplished at RSC Energia by then. A main drawback of the geliorotor was the “floppiness” of separate strips that made impossible the implementation of the system inherent principle of control through changing an angle of attack of a blade-strip and thereby offsetting the centre of mass relative to the centre of pressure created by sunlight. In similar designs known to date the large film reflector surface is built using one of the following methods: by centrifugal forces (structureless systems) and by attaching the film to a supporting structure to hold it rigid. Presently, it is impossible to achieve the similar surface accuracy in structureless systems built by centrifugal forces and offering a number of specific features including the uniquely low mass-dimensional characteristics and simplicity. Electromagnetic VLF waves in the ionosphere and the magnetosphere are a subject of investigations already for more than fifty years.
