ABSTRACT

Breath is the key to life, movement, and rhythm. Many people have disturbances in their breathing pattern and/or are not breathing fully. This can happen because of birth defects, accidents (acute trauma to the system), feelings and emotions (fear, anger, frustration, etc.), and other issues. We study the nature of breathing because Breath influences every aspect of movement. Everyone could benefit from spending some time each day tuning-in to his/her own breath. The importance of Breath in all aspects of movement is an underlying truth of Fundamentals. A basic principle in teaching or rehabilitation using Fundamentals is the following: In patterning or repatterning, breath should be dealt first. Attending to Cellular Breathing can bring back very early memories. It is an ancient embryonic pattern and frequently people feel “unformed” when doing it. The chapter also deals with movement explorations which are suggestions for finding the richness available in putting one's attention on moving from the Breath Pattern.
