ABSTRACT
Prof. Realitas doesn’t know it yet, but his department has been visited by a very keen secondary student, Lisa JiJeune. She surfed into the department’s ad hoc home page this lunchtime, and looked at the sort of environmental research that’s going on in the department. She was particularly pleased to see the statistical analysis of inhalers prescribed for asthma sufferers downwind of combi-fired power plants, work that had been posted by one of the department’s enthusiastic lecturers. With all the energetic drive of youth, Lisa resolves to get the grades required by the department so that she can get her degree in environmental science. It would seem that the department has recruited another promising undergraduate to help fill its quota. If Professor Realitas had insisted on a www presence for each member of staff, and cogent and coherent expositions of their work, to say nothing of his own, what calibre of international students might the department be attracting?
