ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses applications of frequency distributions and lookup functions to customer responses. It discusses the construction of frequency distributions for numerical data, after which two functions for ranking data are explained. The chapter treats the determination of the median, and other quantiles of a distribution. It extends value frequency distributions to frequency distributions for labels. Questions which might need to be answered in regard to this database are: How many customers are there in the various locations, and how many have satisfactions in the 90s, in the 80s, and so on. The first question requires a frequency distribution according to location, which is given by a label (character or text), and the second, a frequency distribution by values or numbers. A simple way to characterize the variation of numerical data is by a frequency distribution, which defines groups with lower and upper bounds and determines how many of the data are in any of the groups.
