ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses more advanced database features using as an example an oil and gas production company reviewing its gas holdings. It presents the data for gas production and the application of elementary statistical functions to these data. The chapter describes the use of database statistical functions, which enable the calculation of statistical measures for subsets of the data based on criteria ranges. Two functions are available for a simple selection based on just one column. Database statistical functions may be used in conjunction with Data Tables to generate frequency distributions for labels or to perform sensitivity analysis with respect to prices or any other parameter. A similar combination of database functions and Data Table may be used to compare the operations in the various provinces. The relation between price and quantity produced represents, in economic terms, the supply curve.
