ABSTRACT

An example of a joint budget for two people sharing accommodation is used to demonstrate basic spreadsheet features and commands. This chapter explains the following spreadsheet commands and functions: change column width and row height, insert columns or rows, delete columns or rows, delete and clear, format numbers and text, move, copy, and paste, undo and redo, copy values, transpose ranges, and relative and absolute cell references. For almost everybody there are a number of tasks that involve calculations, such as devising budgets and filing tax returns. The use of a spreadsheet has the advantage that, once certain calculations have been set up, it is easy to make changes and additions. This will be demonstrated with a budget for two persons who have decided to live together in apartment and share expenses. The format painter button of standard toolbar may be used to copy formats, as indicated before. After a number of formatting changes, the Budget worksheet has the appearance.
