ABSTRACT

How has the number of injury claims made to insurers during the period covered by the survey grown? This trend is shown in the graph below (figure 1), which provides an overview of the number of injury claims by year reported. We see here a clear growth in the number of injury claims made 1 . In 1989 well over twice as many claims were made compared with 1984 2 . The year 1987 constitutes an exception to this trend; for the slight drop in this particular year no explanation has been found. But this is not the case where the relatively large increase in the number of injury claims in 1988 is concerned. This increase is accounted for by one major incident which led to in Department of Health Law University of Nijmegen Survey of medical injury claims https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781003079613/ad389922-24d7-4da4-8959-79a971c163d4/content/fig2_1.tif"/> 6juries being suffered by a large number of patients, and more than 50 claims being made as a result. This justifies a correction to the year 1988.
