ABSTRACT
The number of medical injury claims for medical procedures in hospitals during the period 1980-1990 has increased sharply. The number of cases in which an indemnity has been paid has proportionally fallen and in absolute terms remains the same. The number of civil actions and proceedings before disciplinary tribunals initiated in the case of medical injury claims is at a low level and during the period covered by the survey even shows a downward curve. Most indemnities are below the f 5,000.-- mark and it is only in a few cases that very large ones are paid.
