ABSTRACT

Bourdieu’s sociological analysis of art and culture remains to this day one of the most systematic attempts to analyse, scrutinize and deconstruct the mysterious aura that surrounds idea of art. For a start, let us be clear on an important point: Anish Kapoor is not someone who ever tried to deny his cultural roots. Anish Kapoor left India in 1971 when he was 17 years old. He stayed in Israel for two years, then came to London, where he pursued an artistic training at two different art schools: Hornsey College of Art from 1973-1977 and Chelsea School of Art from 1978-1980. When one looks at the work of Anish Kapoor, it is difficult to ignore the obvious sexual connotations of some of his best-known works. The studio has come to be generally seen since the Renaissance in Europe as one of the places for excellence where artists deal fundamentally with the creative dimension of their art and really express themselves.
