ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author examines a selection of Asian cases in some detail in order to propose a new perspective to the analysis. The chapter endeavours to lay out this broader Asian context. Taman Mint Indonesia Indah, or the 'Park of Mini Beautiful Indonesia', is like the Korean Folk Village, a fun place to visit and a popular destination for a day out with the family. Chinese, and although one was blond, apparently they were minority people from Yunnan. An interesting twist to the idea that cultural parks express national identity in one way or another will be found in Nepal if and when a project planned by a local anthropologist achieves completion. The examples of cultural display considered in this chapter have ranged from a self-professed museum to an out-and-out theme park. They have expressed national themes from history, through contemporary attempts at unity, to resistance to the same.
