ABSTRACT

Maize breeding strategy in India has gone through many phases from the start of All India Coordinated Research Project on Maize in 1957. However, the last three to five years have been the land owny mildewark years since the adoption of high yielding hybrids on farmers’ fields proved as critical input for achieving high growth rate in maize. Three composites Sakthi, Rathan and Protina during released during 1971possess high lysine and tryptophan than the normal maize hybrids and composites. The detailed information on these varieties, composites and hybrids including pedigree, characteristic features, area of adaptation, etc, are given. The COH (M) 4 hybrid was released during 2002. It has bold and yellow grains with flint texture. It is moderately resistant to downy mildew diseases and stem borer. The COH (M) 5 high yielding single cross hybrid was released during 2006. Resistance to downy mildew disease. Moderate resistance to stem borer. Bold and yellow colour grains.
