ABSTRACT

A British project called ‘Counting Dead Women’ has recorded at least 16 domestic abuse killings of women and children between 23 March, when the lockdown began, and 12 April. In Britain it is reckoned two women a day are killed by their partner. Unlike anger, irritation has not been studied much by psychologists, yet there is evidence that what causes irritation can get out of control and lead to domestic violence. Emotional intelligence requires “the ability to process emotional information, particularly as it involves the perception, assimilation, understanding, and management of emotion. Strong emotional intelligence allows one to manage feelings about oneself and others, and to appreciate the perspectives of other people and how they feel or think about things. Emotional intelligence is helpful in lockdown partly because it helps us to pause and think before we react.
