It tells the story of the poet’s life against the background of contemporary history and, in doing so, gives a brilliant picture of Chinese life in the eighth century A.D. – during a period of the Tang Dynasty, fertile in great poets, such as Wang Wei, Tu Fu and Mêng Haojan.
