ABSTRACT

WOHA Architects is a Singapore-based practice that focuses on conceiving integrated architectural and urban solutions to tackle the problems of the 21st century such as climate change, population growth, and rapidly increasing urbanisation. As an island state, Singapore poses various challenges for WOHA Architects in designing sustainable and iconic buildings that respond to its unique urban, climatic, and environmental conditions. As a tropical country with high temperatures, humidity, and rainfall throughout the year, Singapore demands buildings that can provide thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and water management while maintaining the health and well-being of the occupants and the environment. To illustrate, WOHA proposed a master plan for Singapore in 2050 that envisions a series of floating islands that provide housing, recreation, agriculture, and energy production for the city.
