ABSTRACT

Earlier, we had introduced the metaphor of burning logs to describe the essential elements of a person’s presenting communications. If you recall, we mentioned that a client could be asked to imagine that she had spent a hundred hours in therapy and was asked to select three salient words that summarized the essence of what these sessions were about and what she had learned. These are three burning logs that have particular meaning to the person and that symbolize the closest connections she feels to her story.
