ABSTRACT

The baobab tree provides continued relief from the desert heat. This is one of the largest such monsters in the world, as big around as a house and as high as a medium-sized office building. Its branches formed a tent of shade to protect our camp from gradual combustion. Yesterday, a deadly poisonous green snake fell off a branch and landed where we were sitting today. The Bushmen shrieked in panic, eventually cornering the critter and beating it to death with sticks.
