Also called an Emscher tank, this is a self-contained wastewater treat-

ment unit for small communities and isolated installations not served

by municipal systems. Operation is a combination of sedimentation

and anaerobic digestion. Wastewater flows into the upper of the two

chambers and solids settle into the lower section, where digestion takes

place.
