ABSTRACT

Sounds are introduced at different levels (see 'Soundaround programme levels', p. 7), the order largely relating to normal speech sound development (although we do treat vowel sounds differently for practical teaching reasons). An advantage of this approach is the avoidance early on of work on sounds that some young children find difficult to identify or say. Soundaround omits work on 'q' and 'x' altogether, these two letters actually corresponding to the sound blends /kw/ and /eks/.
