ABSTRACT

The present book, Doing Gender in Media, Art and Culture, is designed as a textbook for humanities students specializing in gender studies. Gender studies is a relatively new branch on the science tree, if one realizes that it was only about thirty years ago that the first scholars were assigned to set up a line of teaching and research in women’s studies, as it was first called. Since then, a multitude of course curricula have been developed for women’s studies and gender studies, while new departments were formed and established, new staff appointed, and the first Ph.D theses in gender studies were completed.
