ABSTRACT

Some of the NOS relating to ICT relates to the general principles of supporting pupils and teachers as outlined in the previous chapters, and safety measures as described in the health and safety sections, plus some of the items mentioned in the next section on supporting practical activities. For instance, you will need to provide equipment and resources required by the teacher; know the sort of equipment and resources that are available and their location; the school procedures that must be followed in its use and maintenance; and the reporting of faults or problems. Helping the pupils means maintaining interest, independence and self-confidence in pupils. But there are clearly some specific items relating to ICT that must be considered. Firstly, note that ICT does not just refer to the use of computers and the use of hardware and software, but also, as the scope of the NOS makes clear, overhead projection equipment (OHPs), and recording and playback equipment such as tape and video recorders, and equipment associated with computers and recorders: disks, tape, paper, modems, printers and possibly the video and digital cameras that are in use in many schools.
