ABSTRACT

In light of the theoretical foundations discussed in the previous chapter, the primary objective we posed in this research project was to ascertain whether there is any relation between the presence of non-nationals and the dimension and variation of crime in the various countries of Western Europe. Second, we wished to control whether the contribution of the non-national population to the offi cial crime fi gures varies with the socioeconomic and cultural characteristics of the host countries and with the problems and diffi culties of integration faced by the non-national population within them.
