ABSTRACT

Frege showed that what, for instance, a subject-term expresses or conveys is not the object, if any, that it designates. ‘Evening Star’ and ‘Morning Star’ convey different Senses, though designating the same planetary Object. ‘289 = 17’ says more than ‘17 = 17’. What a truth or falsehood is composed of is not the objects that it is true or false of.
