ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the wider school systems that need to be reviewed before implementing the Learning Support Unit (LSU) initiative. This process is equally valid as an ongoing review and change cycle for schools with existing LSUs, or where problems have arisen with the implementation of any aspect of the continuum of support for behaviour. Changes in school systems can be very effective in helping to improve pupil behaviour. Planned change can empower all members of the school community to feel involved and committed to the change. Review of existing systems is vital if new initiatives are to work. Monitoring and evaluation are part of a cyclical process that leads to the next set of objectives in a gradual step-by-step process. Reviewing and changing a system needs to be a cyclical process, where changes are monitored and further changes made if necessary to continue to improve the system. Every monitoring and evaluation stage becomes a new mini review.
