ABSTRACT

The case study contributions demonstrate a great deal of innovation and good practice and much that promises a secure role for support services in the future. The direction of that future, however, is less certain. A number of issues have emerged throughout the preceding chapters that will need serious attention if services are to attain the state of development we propose in our model. Some of these issues lie within the purview of the services themselves but others, such as the future mechanisms for funding outlined by Peter Gray, do not. In these instances it will be necessary for services to collectively, either locally, regionally or nationally, exert pressure on local and national government to resolve the tensions that these issues create. In the following we outline a possible agenda for consideration.
