ABSTRACT

The approach presented in this chapter is the outcome of a long-term project that began in the early 1990s. It consisted of various meetings that resulted in several books.1 This chapter is primarily based on McAdam, Tarrow, and Tilly’s book (2001) in which their new approach is described and discussed in great detail. In order to save space we use the acronym DCA for “dynamics of contention approach.” We will first present this approach and then discuss its major strengths and weaknesses.
