ABSTRACT

The objective of this book project was to present an overview of the ongoing negotiations on Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs), and to gain insight into the new trade issues and their relevance from the point of view of development economics and political science. This has not been an easy exercise, since we have been studying a moving target. The road towards the (interim) EPAs has been bumpy and will continue to be complex and difficult for the subSaharan African (SSA) countries as well as the European Union (EU). However, based on the contributions to this volume, a number of provisional conclusions can be drawn on the possible contribution of (interim) EPAs for development and on the role of trade-related issues in European trade relations with Africa.
