ABSTRACT

The very nature of human learning is founded on solving problems. As humans we invent tools, we create machines, we develop medicines, we devise artistic activities that express our innermost feelings, and we create games that channel our natural drive to win. In every aspect of life we are biologically predetermined to try to understand our world and, more importantly, we respond creatively to life’s challenges. We try to intervene so that we gain control over our environment. We cut corners, we tell lies (little white ones, of course), we weigh up tricky decisions, we incorporate others’ good ideas into our own work, and we work tirelessly to get the results we are content with, until a new issue arises and demands our attention. All of these acts can be considered creative. In this chapter we will focus on how your creativity as a teacher is important in promoting the creativity of your pupils in the music classroom.
