ABSTRACT

Respectful relationships lie at the heart of the approach to early childhood education within the infant-toddler centres and preschools of Reggio Emilia. The interaction between parents, children and teachers, and the relationships that are forged between them, are seen as essential elements in supporting young children’s learning and development. The value placed on interaction and dialogue is a reflection of the culture of this part of Italy, with its tradition of regular and protracted discussion and debate.
