ABSTRACT

This book highlights the importance of partnership between services and is advocating that teachers or assistants should not take on the role of therapists, but work in partnership with them. Teachers will feel more confident as part of a support team and be able to include therapy programmes within the curriculum. No member of school staff should alter or set up a therapy programme without the therapist’s involvement. If at all unsure, schools should always check. Any specialist seating arrangements must never be altered; however, if staff feel that there is an element of danger, because equipment is unsafe, it is best to contact the therapist for advice and not to allow the pupil to use the equipment. Serial numbers and full details of all equipment should be kept in the pupil’s file in case of damage, so that lost screws or new arms can easily be ordered.
