ABSTRACT
In this chapter I clear the way for a relational approach to sociology through a more extensive discussion of the dichotomy of individualism and holism introduced in the previous chapter. I begin by defining holism. This is followed by a brief outline of the individualist critique of holism and the proposed alternative. I then outline my own criticisms of both holism and, more especially, individualism.
