ABSTRACT

The pursuit of high-quality staff may well be an area of frustration for some Early Years managers. It may not be

so for you and you may have people just waiting for the next available post to become available in your team. Either way, as a manager you need to balance the pressures of filling a post and keeping the ratios right with demonstrating your good practice and implemen tation of values, including equality of opportunity. The short-term requirements to 'get somebody' to do a job may be very real and immediate. These should not be addressed by actions with long-term consequences. Appointment of staff has long-term consequences.
