ABSTRACT
Conservation is discussed as a design process whether it involves preservation of the fabric or an update of the building to contemporary needs or standards. The structural aspects in an intervention present equally interesting challenges that move beyond the mere application of strengthening techniques or the correct use of building technology. The main aspects have been categorised here as areas of interventions with specific structural types or technical problems that have profound effects on the structure of the historic building.
