The role of the IPCC is to objectively, transparently, and comprehensively assess the scientific, technical, and socioeconomic information relevant to understanding the risk of climate change, its potential impacts, and options for adaptation and mitigation. The significance of the work was recognized with a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.1
