ABSTRACT

The accounts on which this volume is based are drawn from survivors whose only common experience is that they had cancer as adolescents, young adults. All other contextual details and life events represent a wide range of social, educational and economic circumstances, marital status, ages, gender and duration of survivorship. As Soliman and Agresta (2008: 59) say many factors including age, personality, faith, education, culture, family, social support, financial means, prognosis and quality of life can shape the ability to deal with the challenges of survivorship. Yet, despite the heterogeneity of my participants, it has been possible to identify a commonality of experience and identification of issues that has allowed the interview data to be presented thematically.
