Traditional performance in contemporary Saurastra The Bhavai tradition is a fascinating subject, a vital subject that should engage all persons concerned with India and its complex, hierarchical and democratic society. The issue of Muslim contribution to the performing arts as well as to the culture of the Saurastra peninsula has become more urgent in light of the deplorable events of the past few years in Gujarat, where Muslims have been victimized by Hindu segregationist forces.
