ABSTRACT

There are few more eagerly anticipated matches in the rugby unioncalendar than Wales’ biannual trip to Twickenham in the Five Nations. For decades Welsh fans have poured down the roads and railway lines that connect south Wales to south-west London, hoping to teach the English a lesson in how to play the game. And the English supporters have hoped for victory to put the Welsh back in their place. Sporting and social rivalry combine to raise anticipation levels sky high.
