ABSTRACT

A brief discussion of some aspects of ‘inclusive leadership’ introduces the interview with Anne Morahan, Education Manager at Dover immigration Removal Centre. Anne and her team are working hard to ensure detainees have very good support in education, but the situation is difficult in terms of the temporary and diverse nature of the client group. The team is achieving much, and has set up a number of schemes to motivate and reward students while they pass through the Centre, Detainees have expressed appreciation and are willing to learn, but teaching is difficult: there are no performance targets because ‘there is no tomorrow at Dover’. Anne’s team do the best they can in these difficult circumstances.
