ABSTRACT

One of the key criterion of successful probation supervision is the overcoming or negation of obstacles which would otherwise have led to further offending. As one of the principal aims of probation supervision is to prevent further offending, tackling an obstacle in such a way that it is no longer felt to represent a risk factor is used as the measure of success. As can be seen by examining the emboldened row in Table 6.1, around a half the obstacles identified at the beginning of the orders were felt to have been successfully resolved.
