ABSTRACT

The Home Office’s publication, Protection through Partnership, describes the purposes and accomplishments of the 40 plus Multi-Agency Public Protection Panels (MAPPPs) across the UK (Home Office 2002). These local bodies, mandated by the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 1 , combine the efforts of police and probation services to manage the ‘risks posed in that area by … relevant sexual and violent offenders, and other persons who are considered by them to be persons who may cause serious harm to the public’ (Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000).
