ABSTRACT

This chapter is about good use of the most important communication tool we have – the voice. Often forgotten in a discussion of audio-visual aids, it remains our most valuable lecturing device and tutors need to learn how to look after their voice, project properly and consider how to use it to best effect in the lecture.Too quiet, mumbled and poorly articulated, too fast, monotone – the common criticism relating to voice use are easily recognizable and this chapter sets out some straightforward guidance on how best to avoid these lecturing pitfalls.
