ABSTRACT

Large-scale research projects across many sites and subject areas generate a large amount of data. This project has collected data through interviews and other interactions with students and staff in colleges, through staff participation in the project, and through observation. We have also collected a large number of documents to do with the teaching and assessment in the various curriculum areas. While the focus of our study has been on literacy practices, this data has provided us with many insights into curriculum issues more generally within colleges. Many of the implications go beyond the specific focus of the projects, as literacies for learning are a part of any learning experience – in schools, universities, workplaces and so on. Projects of this sort also raise issues and questions for further research. What we focus on in this chapter are not only the specific outcomes of the project in relation to literacies for learning in colleges but also some of the broader inferences that can be drawn from them.
